Chantal is a third year Master of Counselling Student, from City University Seattle, Edmonton division. Chantal will be providing individual counselling with youth and adults, with the assistance of Beau, her Border Collie. Chantal and Beau have provided Animal Assisted Therapy for Youth at YES and are looking forward to getting back to work.
Chantal was born in Tangent, Alberta on a farm and then was raised in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. As a farm girl and a northerner, Chantal is inspired by nature and animals. After fifteen years of being a horse family and having active involvement in the horse and riding community in Sherwood Park, assisting with Equine Assisted Therapy is a good fit. Chantal is putting her psychotherapy and horse experience to work through assisting with Equine Assisted Therapy Groups at Mystic Meadows outside of Leduc.
Chantal works from an Attachment-Informed Perspective and places emphasis on building safety and security in through relationships with the therapist and the animals. She has also worked as a counsellor at a Women’s Shelter in Sherwood Park for the past four years and has direct experience in working with women fleeing domestic violence. Chantal aims to assist client to heal from traumatized past through focusing on building supportive and nurturing relationships, and she also uses techniques from ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), Narrative Therapy, and Mindfulness to assist clients to make positive and meaningful changes in their lives.
