Family Counselling Centres

Practicum Opportunities

Family Counselling Centres offers an annual opportunity to one or two Masters Student to join our team for their practicum placement. Provided our interns are a good fit with FCC these placements can lead to a contracted position in the future if the candidate is hoping to register as a psychologist in Alberta.

The position is typically based out of our Leduc and Beaumont offices with preference to those pursuing a career in Play Therapy and
Animal-Assisted Therapy.

Our January 2027 Practicum Application is open! Please complete the form below.

Information – Step 1 of 5
Thank you for expressing interest in completing a counselling internship with the Family Counselling Centres (FCC). Here is some relevant information to consider when determining whether you would be a good fit for an internship at our office:

1. Our team specialises in providing counselling to kids, teens, adults, and families experiencing a variety of mental health needs.
2. Interns are expected to complete introductory training in play therapy prior to beginning their internship. The Rocky Mountain Play Therapy Institute’s Green Stream program is recommended https://rmpti.com/training/green-stream-foundations-of-play-therapy/ or Canadian Association for Play Therapy https://canadianplaytherapy.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/2026-CAPT-Foundation-Training-Schedule_1225_2.pdf
3. While our office has clinicians who provide animal assisted therapy, this is a specialised treatment approach that interns are not able to gain experience with during their internship.
4. We will be accepting 2 candidates: one beginning January 2027 and one beginning September 2027.
5. Our internships are based out of our Beaumont and Leduc offices.
6. We are not pre-approved as an internship site by all universities. A practicum site application may be required by your university before your practicum placement site and supervisors are approved. Internship positions will be prioritized for students pursuing the designation of a Registered Psychologist and whose academic credentials align with the College of Alberta Psychologists and their academic review requirements.
7. The number of interns we accept are determined by the number of supervisors available at FCC as well as the demand for low cost mental health services in the community.
8. Internship schedules are made in consideration of office space available at FCC and we try to accommodate specific preferences whenever possible. In a private practice setting afternoon and evening appointments are more popular with clients.
To submit your application for consideration, please complete the following steps:
1. Forward your resume/CV, cover letter, and the practicum handbook for your university to Amanda Montey (they/them; amanda.m@familycounsellingcentres.com) and Jocelyn Nand (she/her; jocelyn@familycounsellingcentres.com). PLEASE NOTE THAT APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED UNTIL THIS STEP HAS BEEN COMPLETED.
