About Me
As an ADHD, Autistic, and queer therapist, I believe it is essential that people of all diverse identities feel that their identity is celebrated, respected, and validated throughout the course of their therapeutic journey. I am passionate about supporting folks of all ages who are ADHD and/or Autistic, and those who suspect they might be ADHD and/or Autistic. Additionally, I am honoured to work alongside members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community as they explore ways to feel affirmed and empowered in their identity.
I would primarily describe myself as a person-centred and strengths-based therapist. I believe you have the inherent capacity to grow, and that you hold a wealth of knowledge about your life and your needs. By working together, we can empower you to connect with ways of navigating the world that help amplify your strengths, while accommodating your disabilities and other areas of need in an authentic and meaningful way. To help support you on this journey, I will often integrate techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness and regulation strategies from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, art interventions, therapeutic play, a restorative justice lens, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques where appropriate. I love drawing on humour in sessions, and I enjoy using metaphors to help explain complex concepts. Clients have told me that I provide timely, practical, and validating explanations that help make sense of their experiences, within the context of their history, identity, and experiences.
I aim to provide practical and self-compassionate strategies that are informed by the research, and the wealth of knowledge held by the neurodivergent community. To this effect, I like to think of the strategies and resources we discuss as a menu of options. When we like what’s on the menu, we order it. If we don’t like what’s on the menu, we don’t order it. We learn as much from the strategies you try between sessions, as we do from the ones you don’t, so there is no pressure to complete “homework” between sessions. Strategies can and should be adjusted to work for you, instead of the other way around. If this sounds like the right kind of therapy for you, I look forward to hearing from you!
I Also Enjoy:
In my downtime, I enjoy crocheting, playing piano, reading, and making art. I also love spending time with my spouse and my cats, often while watching a Dungeons and Dragons livestream or while playing video games. Additionally, I love connecting with the neurodivergent and queer community through volunteering and by putting on presentations for the community on my special interests- ADHD, Autism, and 2SLGBTQIA+ experiences. Finally, I’m a proud nerd who has the privilege of playing Dungeons and Dragons every weekend with my spouse and our closest friends!
